FAQs About SEO - Search Engine Optimization
Triad-Websites (TWS) HAS THE ANSWER!
Search Engine Optimization is perceived as a mysterious business and therefore is vulnerable to many misunderstandings. A red flag should go up when someone proposes something too good to be true, because usually it is. The following is a list of FAQs to help you in this critical decision about the future of your website.
1 – Can SEO be inexpensive and also effective?
Although our services have affordable rates, Search Engine Optimization requires a lot of work on various aspects: technical, marketing, search, trial and error. It is not an exact science but a mix of science and creativity. Only well trained professionals should approach this field. Therefore, a TRULY EFFECTIVE SEO can be an expensive proposition; in fact, the cost of an SEO campaign for a small business can be well over $3,000. Keep in mind that with most everything you get what you pay for, but with so many 'fly-by-night' firms offering SEO services without the skills we offer, you could end up spending a lot of money elsewhere and then end up having to spend the same amount to get the job done right. Start out with the best and save money!
2 – Are these $39.99/month SEO services worthy?
Absolutely not! The cheapest SEO expert charges much more than that for 1 hour of his/her work. This means that this kind of service is a scam; at best what you get is a monthly, automated, submission to search engines. This is a good way to go into troubles. Please read FAQ #1.
3 – Is it advisable to drop any PPC (pay per click) campaigns because of SEO?
Generally speaking this is not a good idea. It's true that the traffic coming to your website thanks to 'natural searches' is free (other than the cost of maintaining your website and SEO efforts). However, you can target key-phrases not yet well ranked through SEO and the traffic from PPC systems is normally more targeted. While it is true that PPC campaigns can be costly, in the long run SEO gives you a better ROI (Return On Investment).
4 – Will I get results in a few days?
Although sometimes it can happen, Search Engine Optimization is not a 'fast cure.' It's usually a long term proposition and often requires months to see results. However, results tend to be persistent, so if you are in a hurry, it's best to resort to a PPC (pay per click) campaign. However, for long term results, SEO has an unbeatable ROI because clicks brought in from natural search results don't cost a cent!
5 – What about those recurring maintenance fees for SEO?
This is a gray area. Some SEO consultants want you to believe that Search Engines change their algorithms frequently and they have to work hard to keep up with their updates. The truth is that nobody knows exactly how a given search engine places a particular page for a given key-phrase. It's true that search engines frequently change their algorithms, however, a well designed website, using 'white hat' techniques and with a frequently updated content, will always perform well. The key is 'frequently updated.' It's true that content is king. If your SEO consultant charges you periodically to create fresh content and/or tweak what he/she already did, this is a perfectly acceptable practice.
6 – What about reciprocal links?
Reciprocal links simply no longer work. Instead of wasting money on something that does not work, (services hyped by Indian companies), concentrate your efforts on good and rich content for your website. Incoming, one-way links (the most valuable), will come naturally with time at no cost. Have you noticed that our website does not have a link page?
7 – Is it really important to have a good Google PR (Page Rank)?
Google PR is another thing you should not be too worried about. It's a fact that many pages with PR1 outrank pages with a PR6. They have maybe a bad PR, but you can bet that the people working on those pages did a better SEO job.
8 – Can anybody guarantee results with SEO?
No, absolutely not. This would be highly unethical and possibly illegal. Only search engine technicians may have an idea of the algorithms used by search engines. It is like asking Ford to guarantee a car made by General Motors; only a fool would do something like this.
9 – How does the promise, “First page on Google or your money back!” work?
First of all we have to decide what exactly it means to be ranked on the first page of Google. If you use an extremely specific key-phrase, it's easy to get that result. However, being on the first page does not mean that you will get qualified traffic or leads. Companies proposing this clause usually have a “Catch 22” somewhere in their contracts. We could write a book about these tricks, but we prefer to invest our time on genuine, quality SEO services.
